![]() ![]() All the features that the software adds to Excel appear either on the toolbar. The Concepts Workbook functions independently of the add-ins. The Concepts Workbook uses features of Excel 7.0 or better to explore several fundamental statistical concepts. The add-ins are essential for effective use of the textbook. The Analysis ToolPak is an Excel 2010 add-in program that adds extra financial, statistical, and engineering functions to Excel’s pool of built-in functions. The tools included in the Analysis ToolPak enable you to analyze worksheet data by using ANOVA, F-Test, rank and percentile, t-Test, and Fourier analysis. A downloadable StatPlus add-in for Microsoft Excel, data sets for exercises, and interactive concept tutorials are available on the Book Companion Website. Packaged with the textbook is a single diskette containing the data sets used in the textbook Excel add-ins, which are called "The Analysis Tool Pack" and "StatPlus" and the Concepts Workbook. Major topics include an introduction to Excel, graphical and numerical summaries of data, probability distributions and the normal distribution, basic confidence-interval construction and hypothesis testing for one or two population means, fundamental analysis of two-way tables, regression and correlation, analysis of variance, time series, and introductory quality control. As such, it would not be appropriate unless students have continuous access to computers equipped with Microsoft Excel. The twelve-chapter textbook is an interactive guide to using spreadsheet tools for data summaries, both numerical and graphical, and basic statistical analyses. Using it as a primary textbook would not be appropriate because of its omission of such fundamental topics as level of measurement and important discrete-probability distributions and because of its cursory treatment of the theoretical basis for the analyses that are presented. I recommend the package as an excellent supplement for an introductory statistics course. The authors of this package intend that it be used as the core textbook for an introductory statistics course or as a supplemental textbook.
